Missouri Guide
If you hadn't considered Missouri before for a vacation or quick weekend getaway, you may want to think again, you will be pleasantly surprised at what you will find. The mid western state of Missouri is suitable to families, couples, seniors, singles, excitement seekers, culture lovers and nature lovers.
Missouri's two major cities have a great nightlife that includes bars, clubs, concerts, theatre and restaurants. They also have some excellent museums such as the Museum of Westward Expansion in St. Louis. This museum is located under St. Louis's famous Gateway Arch and it has interesting and educational exhibits that those of all ages can enjoy.
If the city isn't for you then hire a car and head out into the rolling Missouri countryside and don't forget to visit the wine country for some sampling and beautiful scenery. If you love nature there are plenty of opportunities for exploring it. A couple popular options are hiking the rugged Ozark Trail or canoeing on one of Missouri's rivers. There are also plenty of locations where can go fishing or cave exploring. The fall is a great time to head out into the countryside. Families can enjoy apple picking, picking out a pumpkin or spending a day at the Missouri State Fair.
There are a number of transport options for those travelling to or around Missouri. The state's two major cities: St. Louis and Kansas City have airports. There is also a train line that runs across the state connecting the two major cities. There are a number of bus routes available as well. One of the best ways to get out and really explore Missouri is to hire a car. You will have the chance to see the scenic countryside as well as some of the state's smaller but interesting towns such as St. Joseph, where you will learn about the history of the Pony Express.
While travelling in Missouri there are a total of six visitor centres around the state where you can get some help with what to see and do. They can provide you with maps and directions. The visitor centres also have brochures detailing local attractions, information about accommodation, where to eat and regional events. You will find visitor centres in Kansas City, St. Louis, New Madrid, Hannibal, Joplin and Rock Park.
